NDP-Liberal agreement over: The beginning of the end for Trudeau

The NDP have no clear rationale for breaking with the Liberals, and no plan to differentiate themselves. What is clear is that the era of stability in Canadian politics is over.

A fitting end for John Horgan: On the board of coal company

John Horgan, the first two-term NDP Premier in B.C., officially stepped down from his post on March 31. Not even one day after stepping down he joined the board of Teck Coal, one the largest exporters of steelmaking coal in the world.

NDP somehow less antiwar than the Green Party

As of recently, the Green Party has become the only major party to question Canada’s participation in the Ukraine War. This is while the NDP, the traditional “antiwar” party, has been ramping up the war drums. It’s shameful that a pro-business party like the Greens has shown more backbone over this question than what’s supposed to be Canada’s main labour party.

NDP: War machines must be made-in-Canada!

The Trudeau government has announced they’re spending $70 billion on new fighter jets. This comes at a time when most working-class Canadians are struggling to even pay the bills. The NDP, which had previously opposed the purchase, has reversed their position, limiting their criticism to the insistence that the jets be made in Canada!

Joel Harden should not have apologized for non-existent antisemitism

In late November, NDP MPP Joel Harden came under attack in the media for supposed antisemitism. This marks a worrying trend in the NDP and in the left in general where antisemitism allegations are weaponized and used against activists and socialist leaders.

NDP bureaucracy attacks prominent socialist activist: Solidarity with Jessa McLean!

The Ontario NDP leadership has begun a smear campaign against Jessa McLean, a prominent socialist member and past candidate for member of Parliament and party president. Unfortunately, this is only the latest in a string of attacks that the NDP bureaucracy has unleashed on progressives and socialists in their ranks.

B.C. NDP scandalously disqualifies left candidate in leadership race

Rumours have been swirling for weeks that the B.C. NDP was going to disqualify Anjali Appadurai from the party’s leadership campaign. Appadurai’s campaign was initially dismissed by the NDP establishment as a fringe campaign and protest vote with no real shot to win. However, with surging momentum behind her campaign and impressive recruitment numbers, she […]

Was the Liberal-NDP deal worth it?

In March of this year the NDP agreed to prop up the minority Liberal government until the end of 2025. In exchange, the Liberals made vague commitments on dental care and pharmacare. While many people were hopeful that this would lead to concessions from the Liberals on these key issues, recent news has confirmed what […]

British Columbia: The BCGEU strike and the fate of the NDP

Some 1,000 government workers organized with the British Columbia General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) in the liquor and cannabis distribution sector have been on strike since August 15. The main demand of the union is for wage increases to keep pace with rising inflation, with the BCGEU specifically demanding a cost-of-living-adjustment (COLA) agreement.  While the B.C. […]

Alberta NDP abandon whistleblower MLA

Thomas Dang, an Alberta provincial MLA, has been in a months-long limbo, out of the NDP caucus due to an unusual police investigation of hacking and whistleblowing. Dang was the youngest MLA ever elected when he won his seat in Edmonton-South in 2015 and had been working under the Alberta New Democratic Party (NDP) until […]
