How does a reactionary become a revolutionary? Through insults? By force? A cheque from George Soros? Not at all. My journey started as an impressionable teenager surrounded by the passionate praises for Trump present in small town New Brunswick. I couldn’t help but follow the excitement. I lauded him and sharpened my arsenal by absorbing as many conservative talking points as I could. So when the time came to defend my corrupted beliefs I could do so with immense pride.
Then, pride caught up to me. Every blunder made by Trump that I had to mercilessly defend began to exhaust and embarrass me. There were just too many for me to ignore. I eventually gave up, casting aside my support in search for more satisfying answers. Ideas came and went with no luck.
After having been in the workplace for many years now and unknowingly witnessing the contradictions of capitalism first hand my doubts started to boil over. That is until I stumbled upon a YouTube video that gave me unbelievable insight, a detailed summary of the Communist Manifesto. As much as I didn’t want to accept it, the truth was now exposed inches from my face. Class, productive forces, materialism, concepts that fit like a glove over the questions that had come to torture me.
From then on everything had changed. My revolutionary spirit was on fire. If curiosity killed the cat, then my eight remaining lives would now be lived as a revolutionary communist. Comrades, throw away your pessimism. Look to my story as an example of how we can and will win over even the most illusioned workers. Those whose reactionary support runs skin deep will discover a fact that strikes to the core. We have nothing to lose but our chains!
