In September, the right-wing rag National Post commissioned a poll asking Canadians “which side they supported” in the “Israel-Hamas” war. The phrasing of this question creates a false dichotomy that conflates opposition to the genocide with support for Hamas. But despite this framing, “younger respondents threw their support behind Hamas”. Blinded by their fanatic support for Zionism, they are completely incapable to understand that even framed that way, the youth “support Hamas” (i.e. want to end the genocide) more than they support Israel.
This false dichotomy also leads to a dishonest overestimation of support for Israel. However we find out that “despite support for Israel, most Canadians have a negative view of Zionism.”
What explanation is given? That there must be a misunderstanding, where people “conflate [Zionism] with colonialism and/or see it as conflicting with the Palestinians’ right to self-determination.” What a misunderstanding indeed! Where could they possibly have got that idea from?
No matter how much they lie, the truth is concrete and always comes to the surface. The truth about Zionism is to be found in the pummeling of Gaza, the ferocious colonization of the West Bank, and all the countless crimes of the Israeli regime defended by our ruling class at home.
