I sat next to a man on the bus who was telling me that he’s leaving the military due to poor mental health. He originally joined because he wanted to help people, but was disappointed to find that wasn’t the case. We ended up talking about politics and I talked about revolution, communism, and our ideas. I spoke with him patiently while he asked questions and I listened carefully when he gave his input. We spoke for a couple hours and in the end, he said he would love to live in a world that I described; one where people can genuinely be human-beings, living free and fruitful lives. I vividly remember how his face lit up as I was explaining how communism will provide the material basis for humanity to advance technology to unimaginable heights. Near the end he said “I’m not someone who can be active in politics right now, but I trust people like you that can help lead humanity to a good place. I know you and your comrades can do it – so keep going no matter what!”
Another time on the bus, a young woman sat next to me and asked what I was reading. I showed her that I was reading the recent issue of Communist Revolution. She immediately bought a copy (I always keep extras with me!) and was amazed while flipping through it. I remember her saying, “these are things that I have been thinking about, but haven’t been able to put it into words!”
Despite being randomly seated next to these people, it really shows the thirst for our ideas.
