Exhausted nurses, overpaid executives

This is capitalism at its best.

The ink was barely dry on the bad collective agreement for Quebec nurses when we learned of the juicy pay rise for executives of Santé Québec, the new government health agency. This new agency hasn’t even started up yet, and its executives are being offered a 10 per cent pay rise! This is because you see, the agency has to remain “competitive”. The “competitiveness” of working conditions strangely doesn’t come into play when it comes to the nurses who hold the healthcare system together. The Ministry of Health and Social Services has even set up a little scheme whereby they  circumvent the law to promote people to executive positions so that they too can benefit from the pay increase. Is there anything that they won’t do for those at the top of the ladder? Exhausted nurses, side by side with pampered and overpaid executives: this is capitalism at its best.
