During a reading group on the Marxist Classics with comrades at a campus cafe, a student came up to us mid-discussion and excitedly asked if we were talking about communism. We said yes, and that we were discussing the Communist Manifesto, to which he replied that he overheard our conversation, and that he was very interested in our ideas. When we invited him to join us at the table, he left—and came back with one of his friends and two chairs to pull up! As the reading group resumed, they both chimed in with their own questions and comments, which comrades nicely integrated into the subject of the Manifesto. One of the students in particular grew visibly more enthusiastic as his focus seemed to allocate itself less towards the assignment he was working on and more towards what we were saying. Both students left with cell invites and stickers, and were promptly placed in contact with comrades! This interaction paints a bold picture: the ideas of communism have never been more relevant. The sneering accusations of Marxism being an “outdated ideology” that have been spouted for decades by liberals and other leftists alike are torn through by reality, where the crushing pressure of capitalist crisis points the consciousness of youth towards the Revolutionary Communist Party, to the point where the simple mention of communism in public draws people in. The tides of history once again turn in our favor, and we must prepare in order to harness it!
