CUPW president's letter to Jim Karygiannis: Hands off Venezuela!

The Hands Off Venezuela campaign has received this letter, written by Denis Lemelin, the president of the 54,000-strong Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW).  Comrade Lemelin addresses himself to Jim Karygiannis, the Liberal member of Parliament, who has launched a campaign of lies and distortions about the Venezuelan revolution.  We urge readers to continue the letter-writing campaign, and to continue to spread the genuine achievements and state of affairs in Venezuela.

Hands Off Venezuela: Jim Karygiannis forced to reply to letter-writing campaign

Hands Off Venezuela's campaign, aimed at Liberal MP Jim Karygiannis' remarks about the Venezuelan revolution, has been a great success so far! Dozens of letters have come in, calling upon Karygiannis to withdraw his lies and attacks against the Venezuelan government.  And, the letters continue to arrive!  The letter campaign has been taken up in earnest on social media, and has now forced Karygiannis to issue a reply.  We encourage people to continue to write in, and force individuals like Karygiannis to witness the large reserve of support that the Venezuelan revolution has internationally.

Letter writing campaign: Liberal Party attacks Venezuela

Liberal MP Jim Karygiannis has recently launched a vile campaign of lies and slander against the Venezuelan government.  On his website, Karygiannis calls for the "return of true Democracy" [sic] to Venezuela.  We are re-publishing the following appeal from the Hands Off Venezuela campaign and encourage everyone to write in, to counter the deliberate campaign of misinformation.

Campaign of the Venezuelan opposition is provoking a revolutionary backlash

venezuela masses redTaking advantage of Chavez’s ill health, the Venezuelan oligarchy and imperialism have renewed their campaign of destabilisation against the Bolivarian Revolution. Since the beginning of the year, and even before, the Venezuelan right wing opposition has unleashed a vicious and disgusting campaign of rumours and lies about President Chavez’s real condition with the aim of removing him from office. The aim of this campaign is to achieve what the oligarchy could not get through the ballot box (nor through previous coups, conspiracies, lockouts, etc): the end of Chavez’s presidency which would deal a serious blow to the Bolivarian revolution. They risk unleashing the wrath of the workers and the poor.

Capitalists want to use Hugo Chávez's health problems to strangle Venezuela's revolution

chavez podiumOn Saturday, December 8, Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez announced that he would have to undergo another surgical intervention in Cuba. Adding that “there are always risks in processes like this,” he explained that “if anything happens to me that hinders me [from performing as president]”, vice president Nicolás Maduro is his preference to replace him.

Venezuela's elections: The masses defend the revolution -- time to move to socialism

venezuela chavez victoryVenezuelan president Hugo Chávez has won, yet again, the presidential elections on Sunday October 7, with a comfortable margin of 54.84% against the 44.55% of his opponent Henrique Capriles. This is another victory for the Bolivarian revolution which should be used in order to carry out the revolution to the end. The turnout was an amazing 81%, beating even the previous record of the 2006 presidential elections which saw a 74% turn out. This showed the extremely polarised nature of this campaign, in which both camps mobilised all of their supporters.

Why should we care about the Venezuelan elections? An interview with Hands Off Venezuela

This coming Sunday marks the presidential election in Venezuela, a critical juncture for the revolutionary movement in Venezuela and across the Americas. A victory for the right-wing candidate, Henrique Capriles, would mean a victory for the oligarchy and their imperialist allies, and threatening all of the gains made by the revolution.  Today, we are publishing a couple of interviews with Fightback's Camilo Cahis. Camilo is also a spokesperson with the Hands Off Venezuela campaign in Canada and been doing a series of interviews with Media Mornings, a radio show on Coop Radio 100.5 FM in Vancouver.

The Venezuelan elections: Why the Marxists support Chávez

venezuela election chavez supportersThe presidential election due on October 7 represents a decisive moment in the history of Venezuela. The outcome of this election will have a major impact throughout the continent and internationally. It goes without saying that the Hands Off Venezuela campaign is actively supporting the Bolivarian candidate Hugo Chávez and fighting against any attempt of the oligarchy and imperialism to sabotage the elections. The Marxist tendency stands firmly for the re-election of Hugo Chávez. Why have we taken this position?

Campaign for justice: Foiled attempt to kill trade union leader in Venezuela

On Monday May 21, there was a foiled attempt against the life of comrade Abraham Rivas. Rivas is general secretary of the National Union of Workers of Helados EFE (SINATRASOHE) as well as general secretary of the recently created National Federation of Workers in Food, Beverages, and Other Companies (FENACTRALBECA), which organizes workers in 21 different companies belonging to Grupo POLAR. He is also a revolutionary Bolivarian activist and a supporter of the Marxist tendency, Lucha de Clases. We send this appeal to all socialists, revolutionaries, and trade unionists to bring these perpetrators to justice.

Toronto: Alan Woods answers the enemies of the Venezuelan revolution

The past few months have seen the return of right-wing attacks on the Venezuelan government and Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez. Also implicated in these attacks has been Alan Woods, the founder of the international Hands Off Venezuela campaign and editor of the popular Marxist website In Defence of Marxism . We were fortunate to have Alan speak at Casa Romero in Toronto’s west-end via video-link, where he answered the lies of the world’s corporate press, as well as why they have attacked him and the HOV campaign personally.
